Banks Mill Celebrates 20 Years

Fri, 20/09/2019 - 09:31

2019 sees us celebrating 20 years of providing space and support to designers, artists and makers in Derby.

Over the last two decades, we have supported more than 382 businesses, 135 of which have graduated from the University of Derby.

The building, which now supports 72 tenants and members, was officially opened on 1 October 1999 by Dr Michael Porter, a renowned UK and international artist who has won numerous major awards; including an Honorary Doctor in Fine Art Award by the University of Derby.

Banks Mill Studios, formerly a rope and tarpaulin factory owned by the Banks family, was refurbished and remodelled into working studios with support from Southern Derbyshire Chamber, English Partnerships and the University of Derby who own the building.

To help us celebrate this milestone you are invited to our open Studios event in November, where you can to see work from 50 different artists, designers, makers and creative services providers.

At the event you can find out how our artists create their unique designs and products as well as buy original work, something that can't be experienced on the high street. You can also meet one of our creative service businesses to discuss how they can work with you.

We are delighted to be celebrating this milestone and invite you to celebrate with us.

The free Open Studios event will open on Friday 22 November from 5-8pm and will continue on Saturday 23 November and Sunday 24 November from 10am-5pm. Entry also includes a children’s art trail as well as a prize draw.

For more information and to find out about all the artists taking part, visit Banks Mill Open Studios.
