Wobbly Easel Events with Lisa Battelle

April 21, 2026

New Social Sip & Paint Experience

The Wobbly Easel is a relaxed, social sip-and-paint experience based in Derby, designed to get people creating without pressure or perfection. Led by local artist Lisa Battelle, the current sessions focus on acrylic painting — with a fun vibe, a drink in hand, and plenty of laughs along the way. Alongside this, a more chilled, low-key watercolour version is about to launch – hopefully in May – with smaller groups and a gentler pace. Both versions are all about switching off, having a go, and surprising yourself with what you can create.

What are the Wobbly Easel events and how did they get started?

The Wobbly Easel events are informal, guided painting sessions where people can come along, have a drink, and create their own version of a painting in a relaxed, social setting. To start with, I just wanted something that supported my own creative process while also getting other people painting — and I enjoyed it so much it quickly snowballed into regular events. It’s all about making creativity feel accessible, fun, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone.

What can people expect at one of these events and how long do they take?

Each session is a step-by-step guided painting experience, usually lasting around 2  hours. Everything is provided — canvas, paints, brushes, easels, and aprons — so people can just turn up and get started. There’s a loose structure to guide everyone through the process, but plenty of room to do your own thing and add personal touches. The atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, with music in the background and people chatting as they go.

Can anyone take part or do you have to have previous experience?

Absolutely anyone can take part — no experience is needed at all. In fact, most people who come along haven’t picked up a paintbrush since school. The sessions are designed to be beginner-friendly and supportive, with encouragement throughout. It’s about having a go and enjoying the experience, not getting everything “right.”

How can people book onto one of these events?

People can book onto upcoming events via my website or through the links shared on social media. I also use a Linktree as a central hub, which makes it easy to find current dates, booking links, and event information all in one place. Spaces are limited, so it’s always worth booking in advance to secure a spot.
