A Kings Trust Ambassador!
February 26, 2025
Alan Goodwin, otherwise known as Stitched by Alan, has been creating embroidered personalised pet portraits since 2016. He's now been chosen by The Kings Trust to become one of their Ambassadors for the Midlands!
After being made redundant, Alan decided it was time to follow his dream to set up his own embroidery business. While unemployed, he received support from his local job centre and was reminded about the support that The Princes Trust (at the time) provides to aspiring entrepreneurs Alan said that once he’d signed up to The Trust’s Enterprise business programme, he realised it was one of the best decisions he’d ever made. “I was offered so much support, including a grant to buy embroidery equipment, a mentor, business planning advice and support to complete my business plan”.
Since then, Alan has gone from strength to strength, appearing on the BBC’s ‘Make It At Market’ in 2023 and moving into his studio here at Banks Mill, where he has been able to grow his business.
Now, Alan has the opportunity to give back to The King’s Trust after recently applying to become one of their Young Ambassadors. After applications and interviews, Alan was successfully chosen to represent the King’s Trust in the Midlands.
So, what is the role of a Young Ambassador? They support The Trust in a range of ways, usually by bringing people closer to The Trust through sharing their inspiring stories and demonstrating the impact of the King’s Trusts’ programmes. Ambassadors volunteer their time to motivate donors and funders, so the trust can continue to provide support for more young people. Young Ambassadors can sometimes reach out to the media, to public decision makers and occasionally to other young people.
