Despite a global pandemic, forcing two closures and a delay in their collection being released, there has been a lot of exciting and positive things happening inside Studio 4.8 at Alexey Morozov. Alexey, who graduated from the University of Derby in June 2017 with a BA Hons Degree in Fashion Design moved into Banks Mill in August 2019 to work on his business idea, and officially launched MRZV by Morozov in November.
Over the year they have welcomed a range of industrial and domestic sewing machines into the studio, as well as a Lillet professional iron, bigger pattern cutting table, and four beautiful Diana’s (dress form mannequins from Russia). The studio is jam packed with fabric, threads, books and garments.
During their first year they have also re-branded from ‘MRZV by Morozov’ to ‘Alexey Morozov’.
As part of the business they offer a busy alterations and tailoring service. Alexey comments: “We pride ourselves on a bespoke personal service carrying through the quality and attention to detail from seam to home fittings and delivery. We even made hundreds of Alexey Morozov face coverings during the early part of the pandemic.“
Another part of the business which has grown is the bridal and bridal alteration service, Alexey comments: “This has been a bit of a surprise as we didn’t promote it and it’s thanks to our customers for all of your recommendations and generous reviews; We feel very lucky as we’ve been really busy, despite a global pandemic. To help us manage the workload we are also in the process of taking on two University of Derby interns.”
Alexey Morozov are also involved in some exciting projects for existing and start up brands which includes the design, development and prototypes, and later going into production.
They are also working on a top secret project for the BBC and although they can’t say too much more will be revealed in 2021!
Alexey comments: “Who knows where the future will take us? Like any new business in its infancy, we are welcoming every opportunity with open arms, but my vision is clear, to be designing and making my own season collections under the Alexey Morozov label.”
