Can you tell us the story behind why you started your business/practice and your journey so far.
I am the main glass cutter at one of the leading companies in the glass industry in Derby. Driven by a desire to expand my experience working with glass, I stepped into the world of stained glass, and in a very short time it evolved into the universe of Gentle Glass. What drives me is the passion to continue this craft while constantly pushing my abilities toward more innovative forms of glasswork and artistic expression.

What do you hope that being part of the Banks Mill community will do for your creative business/practice? Is there one thing in particular that you’re looking forward to?
Being part of the Banks Mill community would allow me to grow Gentle Glass in an inspiring, creative environment surrounded by other makers and professionals. I believe that being part of Such a community will not only help me develop my craft, but also open doors to collaboration, new ideas, and a deeper understanding of how to build a sustainable creative business. What I am looking forward to the most is having the space to expand my skills and experiment with more ambitious and innovative glass projects, while learning from the experience and energy of other creatives around me.
Do you have any other work experience/support/or training that’s relevant to what you’re doing now?
My experience includes several years of working across most stages of glass processing.

What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment, I am creating small stained glass light catchers to expand my portfolio, and I am also planning to begin work on my first Tiffany lamp project.
Tell us about your work and techniques, how long can a piece take to complete?
Everything begins with a sketch, where I select the colour palette and create a unique design, which I then transfer from paper onto glass. I cut the glass, precisely grind each piece, and assemble the elements using the Tiffany technique, using copper foil and solder. The time required to complete one stained glass piece, or light catcher can range from 4 to 40 hours, depending on its size and level of complexity.

What are your plans for your business/practice for the next 12 months?
I plan to continue developing my stained-glass work and further refine the quality of the final product. I also intend to begin working on a series of Tiffany lamps, while at the same time practising glass sandblasting to broaden my technical skills and explore new surface textures and finishing techniques. For now, I invite everyone to keep an eye on what’s unfolding within the Gentle Glass universe, as I have a strong feeling that many exciting and colour-rich projects are ahead of us.
