Maria Terry – New Set & Costume Design
June 2, 2025
Maria Terry, our resident designer for Theatre costumes and set design, will be taking on this challenge for new play "Exe Men"
Life on Mars co-creator Ashley Pharoah, is to make his playwriting debut with a production about the meteoric rise of rugby “underdogs” the Exeter Chiefs. The production also represents Pharoah’s first foray into writing for theatre, having created work for the BBC time-travel dramas Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, as well as Around the World in 80 Days. Pharoah said: “I had already read and loved Rob Kitson’s book Exe Men, so when I was asked to adapt it for the brilliant Exeter Northcott I was absolutely thrilled. “As a rugby-mad, theatre-loving writer from the South West, it has everything — rags and riches; scrums and beers; laughter and dreams. I can’t wait for people to see it.”
Banks Mill’s own Maria Terry will be designing the set and costumes for the new production, set to hit the stage at Exeter Northcott Theatre in Autumn 2025. Maria prides herself in weaving sustainability into all of her designs, often in unexpected and creative ways. I’m sure she’ll be after recycling more than a well worn and battered rugby shirts in preparation for this exciting new play.
