Meet Ebony Boam one of our newest members, specialising in family and new born photography

How would you describe your creative business?

My photography practice explores connection, genuine expression and the in-between moments that go unnoticed. I’m drawn to natural light for its authentic timeless quality, creating imagery that tells a family’s story honestly, from capturing a personal milestone or the beauty of everyday moments.

Can you tell us the story behind why you started your business and your journey so far?

I started my business after having two young boys, now aged 2 and 5. Becoming a mother made me realise just how precious memories are and how important it is to capture life’s fleeting moments. Photography has always been a passion – from being behind the camera to getting stuck into editing in Lightroom, I love every part of the process. I love connecting with people and empowering mothers through every stage of motherhood, from maternity sessions to celebrating life with their new borns. Capturing new families and watching them grow is incredibly special.

Did you study at university?

I graduated from the University of Derby in 2013 and studied BA Hons Photography.

What do you hope that being part of the Banks Mill community will do for your creative business/practice?  Is there one thing in particular that you’re looking forward to?

Joining the Banks Mill community would allow me to grow my photography practice in a collaborative, creative environment. As a mother and photographer, I’m passionate about capturing families authentically, and I hope this community will inspire my work, connect me with like-minded creatives, and help my business grow further.

What are you working on at the moment?

This spring I’m offering mini sessions, which are always a favourite for families. I also have availability for New born , Motherhood and Family sessions throughout the year, currently booking up to September.

Tell us about your work/techniques/ how long your work takes to complete?

My sessions vary to suit each family’s needs. My new born photography is completely baby-led, allowing time to feed, soothe and settle little ones for a relaxed and comfortable experience. I work closely with clients to create imagery that feels personal and authentic, incorporating meaningful items, inviting pets, and including other generations of the family. I offer studio sessions, location shoots and in-home sessions for a more lifestyle focused approach. For new borns, I provide a curated wardrobe and offer support and advice before the session to ensure we get the very best from the experience.

What are your plans for the business over the next 12 months?

Over the next 12 months, I plan to grow my photography business by expanding the services I offer and reaching more families who are looking for authentic and natural imagery.

I hope to continue developing my personal style and storytelling approach, explore collaborations with other creatives and local businesses.

I want to invest in professional development, including workshops and training to refine my skills and offer an even higher-quality experience for clients. I also want to enhance my online presence with a refreshed portfolio social content and marketing to showcase my work.

By the end of the year, I hope to have strengthened my practice building a more established service.
