Sue Russell – Masson Mills Exhibition

May 28, 2026

Three years in the making - Weaving and Masson Mills - a PhD study

After three years of Doctoral research through The University of Derby into Masson Mills in the Derwent Valley, Sue Russell is proud to present a new exhibition of woven textile works. After being drawn to the windows of the Masson Mills for an earlier project, this first exploration initiated a plethora of questions which Sue’s research has now set out to answer. Her latest work explores weaving using a variety of looms and techniques such as the Bonas jacquard, 24-shaft floor standing Arm loom, plus a 16-shaft tabletop Harris loom. The culmination of this research has led to an exhibition which will be open to the public and feature primarily continuous weft weaving, with elements of tapestry too.

“I am pleased to be able to share my woven artefacts with you.  My solo exhibition of weaving created during this research is available for viewing in the site that inspired my inquiry.  The exhibition is open to the public throughout June, during Masson Mills textile museum opening hours, which are 10:00 to 16:00, Monday to Saturday.  In addition, I am pleased to announce that I will be giving a lecture explaining my findings on Saturday 20th June 2026 starting at 11.00 in the same venue (Masson Mills, 41 Derby Rd, Matlock DE4 3PY).  To book your ticket for this event please visit my website shop” https://peakgatetextiles.co.uk/shop/ols/categories/lecture.
