February 26, 2025
Tom is a Composer for films, video games and advertising, his work can be heard in media that is distributed around the world. This month he reflects on his first year with us at Banks Mill and looks forward to the future.
How have you developed over the last 12 months since moving into Banks Mill?
I’ve been able to create my dream studio space that endlessly inspires me and enables me to enter flow state easier than ever before. It truly has been a game-changer and in September 2024 I was accepted into BAFTA’s Connect program due to my work in the industry so far.
Have you engaged in any support/groups/networks in the last 12 months?
I have engaged with groups and opportunities like Create Growth which has been helpful for networking and allowing me access to a free creative coaching session.
Have you invested in any new equipment or employed any staff over the last 12 months?
I invested in new equipment, the biggest & most recent investment being a new computer which is going to make my workflow smoother working in music production software, as well as faster video rendering & export times.
What have you been working on recently?
Some highlights from 2024:
I did a lot of work with music technology company Audio Imperia across 2024. A standout project was having the opportunity to craft custom presets with Audio Imperia for Native Instruments’ virtual instrument Kithara, as well as composing one of the official demo tracks.
In the summer, I collaborated with AVA Music Group on 2 sponsored posts & bespoke music as part of their social media marketing campaign for the launch of DECADENCE Trailer Toms. And just before Christmas, I finished scoring the short Christmas animation film The Runaway Sleigh.
2025 so far:
I’m currently working on exciting projects with Audio Imperia and have other music work in the pipeline for 2025.
How has being based at Banks Mill helped your business?
Having a studio away from home has transformed how I work. It’s so good having one space dedicated to writing music & creating social media videos, as well as being able to have clients visit the studio.
The unexpected benefit of being based at Banks Mill Studios however was becoming part of such a vibrant creative community. There are so many incredible artists and makers here, it’s so inspiring to be around them.
What are your plans for your business for the next 12 months?
A big goal for 2025 is to go to more networking events across the country, maybe even internationally, keep expanding my network and planting seeds for future scoring work as well as honing my craft more. I’m also planning to put a stronger focus on social media content compared to last year.
What’s been your favourite thing about having a Studio at Banks Mill so far?
Gradually transforming my studio into a tropical plant sanctuary…

Here’s a little bit about FrightFest from The Herald:
“FrightFest, dubbed “the Woodstock of Gore” by director Guillermo Del Toro, was set up in 2000 and held its first Glasgow edition in 2006. It has grown in size and stature and is internationally renowned for discovering exciting and original horror and fantasy genre films, and for supporting the talent behind them.”
“Directed by Stephon Stewart (Bigfoot County), this thought-provoking sci-fi thriller boasts a riveting performance by Sarah Ritter, as Mara, who, with the aid of a vintage 1980s computer, embarks on a surreal journey where nothing is as it seems. Director Stewart will attend the screening.”
