As well as seeing first-hand how our artists create their unique designs and handmade products you can also buy original work directly from the artists themselves, something that can’t be experienced on the high street. Please note there is no lift in Banks Mill so there is limited access to the ground floor only for less abled visitors.
Located on Bridge Street in the heart of Derby, Banks Mill Studios is a thriving creative hub managed by the University of Derby.
Once a historic textile mill, it now houses artists, makers, and designers working across a wide range of disciplines, from illustration and ceramics to printmaking, music, and glasswork. The studios provide affordable workspaces, mentoring, and professional support, helping emerging creatives turn their passions into sustainable careers within a welcoming community.
The Banks Mill Open Studios event gives visitors the opportunity to explore five floors of creative spaces, take part in workshops, and purchase unique handmade pieces directly from local makers.
This year’s event offers a rare glimpse into Derby’s vibrant creative scene, a celebration of art, collaboration, and the power of making together.
Entry to the event is free, and everyone is welcome to explore and meet the artists who make Banks Mill such a vibrant part of Derby’s creative community.
