Meet new Affiliate Member Florence Mulvey, a visual artist adventuring in abstract and landscape painting. Florence has studied at the Birmingham institute of Art and Design where she gained a BA Hons in Fine Art as well as a PGCE in Art & Design from Goldsmiths University.

This month we welcome one of our newest tenants, illustrator Rosie Yates to the building and get to know more about her practice and how she looks forward to settling into her new studio at Banks Mill. Rosie is a freelance illustrator and works predominantly using digital illustration techniques. Her illustration style varies but she enjoys using uplifting colours in her work and adding subtle hidden details that you might have to look a little harder to find! Projects that Rosie has worked on include illustrated maps, drawings for printed media and magazines and creating animated gifs.

Derbyshire Open Arts is an annual art event on the Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May. Individuals and groups organise their own studios and venues but join together under one banner. Artists and crafts people open their studios to the public or exhibit with others in a combined venue such as a village hall or art gallery. It gives visitors an opportunity to see the breadth of art that is created in Derbyshire, to meet the creators, and to purchase or commission works directly from the maker. We’ve compiled a list of Banks Mill Members who will be taking part in this year’s event and where to find them.
